Local beta

DevTools, but for noties.

DevNotes lets me leave visual notes on a live web page. Draw around a detail, select the words or connect several regions, then keep the thought and its replies beside the thing they refer to.

Point at what you mean

While refining this portfolio, I wanted one word to move with the rest of its phrase. An arrow and “orphan and-ie” carried the intention more directly than a description of the layout rules.

An early version of this portfolio, with a red DevNotes arrow asking to move “and” from the end of the second headline line to join “useful mischief.”
orphan and-ie
An early DevNotes moment, restored between iterations. The original screenshot and its saved note, back together.

The note records the page, selected text, geometry and nearby browser context. A coding agent can inspect the same place while I keep working in visual terms.

A working notebook

The local beta autosaves notes, edits and replies. One note can hold several selections. Named snapshots preserve the notebook, and restoring one first keeps a safety copy of the current state.

Notes stay local. The overlay attaches to a local page without changing that page’s source repository.

Two ways of thinking on a page

The desire to move the captured elements became a separate experiment, Devsigner. DevNotes keeps its own job: observing, marking and talking about the page as it is.
